Admission Journey to Vivekanand Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS)

Last Updated : 2 Apr, 2026

Hello everyone! I am currently a 1st-year B.Tech student pursuing Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AIDS) from Vivekanand Institute of Professional Studies – Technical Campus (VIPS), Delhi, which is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).

Many students are confused about the JEE admission process, IPU counselling system, and management quota seats in IPU colleges. In this article, I will share my complete admission journey, including my JEE rank, counselling experience, management quota process, and the factors that helped me choose VIPS.

Entrance Exam and Admission Criteria

  • Candidate must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Minimum 75% in Class 12 boards (as per eligibility criteria).
  • Admission is conducted through JEE Main rank and IPU counselling.

My Academic Details

Class 12 Percentage: 86.6%

JEE Main Rank (CRL): Around 3 lakh

After seeing my rank, I already knew that getting into top colleges like IITs or NITs would be difficult. Therefore, I started focusing on other counselling options such as IPU Counselling (Delhi colleges) and UPTAC/AKTU Counselling (Uttar Pradesh colleges). Although I filled both counselling forms, my preference was always to study in Delhi, so I focused more on IPU counselling.

My IPU Counselling Experience

IPU counselling usually takes place in multiple rounds followed by spot rounds.

In the first round of counselling, I was allotted a college that was not my preferred option. However, IPU has an important rule that if a seat is allotted in any round, the candidate must pay around ₹96,000 as the seat acceptance fee, even if they are not fully satisfied with the allotted college.

Unfortunately, I was not aware of this rule, so I did not pay the fee. Because of this, I was removed from further rounds of counselling and re-entry into later rounds was not allowed. Later, I came to know that I could still participate in the spot rounds, so I applied for those.

Management Quota Counselling Experience

Since my IPU counselling had ended and UPTAC counselling usually happens later, we also explored management quota admissions in IPU colleges.

I applied for management quota counselling in VIPS, BPIT, MSIT, and some other colleges affiliated with IPU. During this process, I observed that some colleges asked for donation, which significantly increases the cost of admission. However, some colleges conduct a transparent counselling process without donation.

All management quota counselling sessions were offline and scheduled on the same day, so it was difficult to attend multiple colleges. First, I went to BPIT, but unfortunately the gate was closed within 10 minutes and I was not allowed to enter. After that, we went to VIPS with very little hope.

At VIPS, students were seated in a large hall, documents were verified, and the entire counselling process was recorded with cameras. No donation was demanded. Students were called one by one according to their Class 12 percentage in descending order and allowed to choose their branch based on seat availability.

The process started from around 94% marks, so I had very little hope. When 86.6% was called, two students went inside and only two seats in the AIDS branch were left. Luckily, I got one of those seats. We then completed the fee payment and admission formalities.

Spot Round Result and My Dilemma

Around the same time, the IPU spot round results were also announced and I got Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AIDS) at ADGITM.

Now I had two options: AIDS at VIPS through management counselling or AIDS at ADGITM through the spot round. This created a dilemma for me. After considering different factors and visiting both campuses, I finally decided to choose VIPS.

Why I Chose VIPS

There were several factors behind this decision. After visiting both colleges, I personally felt more comfortable with the environment at VIPS. During my visit to ADGITM, I heard several students discussing backlogs and academic issues and also came across some live student reviews, which made me feel slightly discouraged.

Another important factor was infrastructure. I found the campus and facilities at VIPS to be better and more organized, which made the overall environment feel more suitable for studying. Considering these factors, I decided to choose the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science branch at VIPS.

My Experience at VIPS So Far

So far, my experience at VIPS has been very positive. There have been various college fests, technical seminars, hackathons, and workshops. The teachers are supportive and encourage students to participate in different technical activities.

VIPS is also gradually developing a good placement record in technical fields. Since I am pursuing B.Tech, I mainly have knowledge about B.Tech placements.

Advice to Juniors

Focus mainly on JEE preparation, as a good rank can help you get better college options. At the same time, do not ignore Class 12 studies because scoring at least 75% in boards is an important eligibility criterion.

Do the choice filling in counselling carefully and try to understand the counselling process beforehand. Research colleges properly by checking placements, facilities, infrastructure, hostel facilities, faculty, and labs.

Choose wisely and, if possible, prefer top-tier colleges like NITs even if the branch is slightly different rather than choosing a lower-tier college only for a particular branch. Once you enter college, start working on your skills immediately such as coding, problem solving, and communication skills, as they play an important role during internships and placements.

Conclusion

My admission journey taught me that understanding the counselling process is just as important as preparing for entrance exams. Even a small mistake, like not paying the seat acceptance fee on time, can change the entire admission path.

For students aiming for engineering colleges, it is important to research different counselling systems, keep backup options, and stay updated with official notifications. At the same time, remember that college is only the starting point. What truly matters is the skills you develop, the projects you build, and the effort you put into learning during your four years of engineering.

With proper planning, awareness of the admission process, and continuous skill development, students can make the best use of the opportunities available to them.
